“Would you always—maybe sometimes—make it easy? Take your time.”
In addition to Slow Life, from the Twilight: New Moon soundtrack, Victoria Legrand also appeared on the Grizzly Bear’s Two Weeks, from their Veckatimest album. I did not know that at all until I just now started Googling Grizzly Bear and Victoria Legrand, but upon further review, there she is, in the album credits. I see she fills in some of the high-end backing vocals.
Annie Zaleski of Riverfront Times interviewed Victoria about the experience:
I understand you offered some guest vocals on the new Grizzly Bear album, Veckatimest, which has been getting a lot of press. What was that experience like?
It was fun. I was really flattered that they asked me to do that. I went up there in just an afternoon and recorded in their incredible practice space, because they had a church basically to themselves, and it was fun. I got to sing it live with them this past weekend, and I tried not to screw it up too much. [Laughs] It’s hard to jump on stage when a band’s already been playing and you gotta get right into their energy. But it was fun and I’m really grateful that they thought of me for that.
The studio version of Two Weeks has an awkward official music video, which sadly does not feature Ms. Legrand. Making matters worse, they’ve got bassist Chris Taylor in there lipping over her vocals, which I guess is why I never realized they had a guest vocalist. But she’s there. Have a listen:
