“I have a dream that we can change it. You need just a glimpse of hope.”
A cousin of keyboardist Jürgen Fritz, Köllen joined the band for Illusions on a Double Dimple, replacing bassist Hans-Georg Pape. He would leave the band after Spartacus to embark on a solo career. His lone solo album, 1976’s You Won’t See Me, was released posthumously after his untimely death in 1977 of “carbon monoxide poisoning while listening to some of the studio tracks in his car’s cassette player while running the engine in his garage,” according to Wikipedia. Online sources stop short of calling the death a suicide, but for what it’s worth, Köllen was also an experienced auto mechanic and race car driver.
